Office for Information Technology Website Redesign (2006) with Young Hahn
While working for the Office for Information Technology, I quickly learned that they worked hard to be available to the rest of the campus. They wanted to be relied upon and trusted. It was also apparent that these were great people to work with. Not only did they know their stuff, but they were personable and worked hard to make technology less intimidating.
Unfortunately, their website did not convey this as well as they hoped. The site said we were more interested in impressing our internal structure and language on the community than serving them.
Elements such as a twenty item top-level menu made approaching the OIT website intimidating. We made the classic mistake of having our website mirror our own internal administrative structure - something the average user did not care about.
Connected Newsletter (2005)
Prior to the website redesign, I worked to make OIT more approachable and trustable through the newsletter. It helped to remind the campus there were faces and folks who worked hard to keep things running smoothly.
Structures of Interactive Information Course Website (2003)
Working with Dr. Andruid Kerne, I designed and implemented this website for his course. Since I had held short tutoring sessions and workshops for his course, I was able to implement things which helped students in future classes.
